2018 Orthopaedics for the Primary Care Provider

The Musculoskeletal Organization for Research and Education is pleased to present Orthopaedics for the Primary Care Provider. This 2-day conference will provide primary care clinicians with the latest updates on the most common orthopaedic injuries and disorders treated by the primary care provider. This conference offers an informal venue for area clinicians to learn from, and have access to, national experts in the field of orthopaedics. The goal of this educational activity is to provide attendees with the latest evidence-based treatment and diagnosis recommendations in order to improve care of primary care patients.


Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Apply techniques for the proper work-up, diagnosis and treatment of common orthopaedic injuries and musculoskeletal ailments
  • Utilize appropriate diagnostic tools including x-rays and MRIs
  • Practice joint injection techniques
  • Apply appropriate casting and splinting techniques

Registration and Conference Agenda




Pre-Conference | Friday, June 1*


In this pre-conference we will overview basic exercise physiology, the role of intensity, recovery principals, overtraining syndrome, and nutrition for health and performance. Next we will compare the injured runner with the efficient/un-injured runner in tissue specificity, anatomy, biomechanics and clinical evaluation of mobility and strength. Finally, we will evaluate hydration, heat and hyponatremia in endurance runners and conclude with a clinical perspective to evaluate gait. Following the running clinic, participants should be able to:

  • Explain basic exercise physiology and running training terminology
  • Describe the nutritional requirements for runners
  • Employ several techniques to improve kinetics and performance and decrease injuries in runners
